Where has the time gone?

I could not believe it had been nearly five months since my last post! Wow! Life gets busy. I have been jotting down ideas for posts and I intend to get back to weekly, or at least monthly 🙂 posts again very soon.

I saw some statistics today above pain killers that I could not wait to post. Please take a look at my previous post from today.

Chiropractic care is almost always going to be your most conservative approach to addressing your aches and pains. More than likely, if you go to an MD you will be recommended muscle relaxants, NSAIDS, and opiods for your pain. Not one of which will get to the cause of your pain. If these fail to work, you are likely to be referred to a orthopedic surgeon. Orthopedic surgeons do surgery folks, they will inevitably find a reason to want to do surgery on you.

When contemplating surgery it is important to understand the rule of thirds: 1/3 get better, 1/3 have no change, and 1/3 get worse. Who would like to try their odds?? Me neither.

Chiropractors are NON-SURGICAL musculoskeletal specialists! It’s time to begin to think of us as your FIRST CHOICE in care for your aches and pains. Especially low back and neck pain which plagues an overwhelming amount of the population. Keep in mind though, that we also treat extremities for those of you out there trying to ignore that ache in your shoulder or that clicking in your knee. You know who you are!

Who do you go to when you have a tooth ache? The dentist, right? Who do you go to for your glasses? The optometrist, right? So why aren’t you going to the aches and pains specialist (CHIROPRACTORS, of course) when you have aches and pains??

The more dangerous and invasive options will always be there for you in the event that a chiropractor is unable to help, which isn’t likely 🙂

If you have surgery, and it doesn’t resolve your pain, you don’t get a “do over”. Your in luck anyway! Chiropractors manage failed surgery patients pain all the time. It’s just a shame that many of these folks may have prevented the need for surgery if they had met their chiropractors sooner.

Friends, family, and strangers please be good to one another and have a wonderful weekend!

No Whining!

If you aren’t willing to get involved and take the appropriate actions to make a change, then what is the point of complaining? This applies to school, work, politics, and so on.

I realize everyone wants to vent occasionally and stand up for themselves, but why let your opinion fall on deaf ears? If you are passionate and want to see a change, get involved!

Join an organization that supports your endeavors or get involved with legislative actions. It takes no time to send an email to a congressman. Many organizations will write an email for you about a legislative initiative and allow you to attach your name and send it.

I am proud of my fellow chiropractic students who spent the latter part of last week in Washington DC speaking with congressman about better legislative actions for chiropractors which would allow more of the population to see chiropractors. It is important for us as a profession to fight for our rights so that we can more easily get the care to the public that they deserve.

I am also proud to be a part of the Student Government Association at New York Chiropractic College where I am able to make changes for the good of my fellow student as well as the students who will follow in our steps.

Treat Every Day Like an Exam Day!

Easier said than done, I know… but seriously, you get a choice in how you are going to tackle each day. Sometimes you have no choice about matters, but at the very least, you can always choose your attitude.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we got to decide when to take our exams, or when to pay our bills, or when to deal with that difficult person… well often times we don’t get to make those decisions. This is the cause of so much turmoil for so many people.

Instead of focusing all of your energy on things you have no control over, focus on what you do have control over and look for the silver lining in everything.

Consider those exams to be a learning opportunity, or to show what you know! When dealing with a difficult person, use the experience as a lesson in compassion and acceptance, two virtues that if were practiced a little more often could make a huge impact in your life and the lives of others.

Treat everyday like an exam! In other words, always give it your best!

Remember though, that “your best” may change from day to day. That’s okay, we’re human, and we deserve the occasional off day. I sincerely hope everyone enjoys their holiday weekend!

Tom Brady gets adjusted, do you?

All 32 NFL teams utilize chiropractors! It’s no coincidence.

Professional athletes understand the importance of maintaining pain-free motion in their bodies. No one can help them to keep doing what they do pain-free better than a chiropractor.

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a competitive athlete you owe it to yourself to perform at your optimum potential. If you’ve been out of the game recently or long-term due to an injury or pesky aches and pains, it’s time to see what a chiropractor can do for you.

You perform routine maintenance on your vehicle so that it stays on the road, right? Why not get some routine maintenance for yourself so you can stay in the game!

Community Service Is So Rewarding!

Yesterday I spent five hours working alongside fellow chiropractic students helping our local Habitat for Humanity. What a great day it was!

It is an incredible experience to see a room full of holes in the wall from a bee-bee gun and what I presume to be someones fist and or foot transformed into a room free of holes in just a few short hours!

After a few more weekends of drywall and sanding, and then some fresh paint, this room will be transformed into a new room free of holes and profanity on the walls. A fresh start for a sad old room!

Where can use some renovating in your own life? Family, work, your health?? With a bit of work you can have a fresh start too. Out with the old and in with the new!

My first blog post!

I confess… this is for a school assignment although I am quite intrigued by this new blogging adventure. I was given a few other options for the assignment but chose to start a blog because it was something I had never done before.

I think its good to leave your comfort zone on occasion and try something new. So here I am. I’ll add some information about myself to a designated “info” page when I figure that out.

My purpose for this blog is to help educate those of you out there who may not have a good understanding our a false understanding of what chiropractic is and what chiropractors do and/or can do.

I am half way through my chiropractic education in central New York and feel like I have a pretty good grasp on things and can help answer questions that people may have. Or enlighten you as to how we fit into the healthcare system.

I feel like I need to put a little more time into this page right now to generate some visitors so I’m going to sign off for now, but more to come very soon!
